Unlawful Interview Questions and What to Look Out For

You may have been asked an unlawful question in a past interview and not even realised it. It’s important to be prepared to recognise these kinds of questions and what to look out for.

Types of illegal questions:
🚫 Racial Discrimination - this includes any questions relating to colour, nationality and ethnic and national origins.

🚫 Religious Discrimination - this includes any questions relating to your religion or beliefs and has also been extended to cover ‘lack of belief’ too.

🚫 Sexual Discrimination - this area is predominantly aimed at females, but please be aware that male applicants have and do experience the same. Questions could include anything from marital status and children to sexual orientation.

🚫 Disability Discrimination - employers can legally ask certain questions related to health and disability, however, please note that these are limited. An employer is obliged to make reasonable adjustments to accommodate you if required.
